Andy Murray Wins Sports Personality Of The Year

Prior to Andy Murray winning the main award of the night, a gorgeous trophy with shields around the outside displaying the names of the previous winners of such a prestigious and much sought after award, a number of other sportsmen and sportswomen were praised and recognised for their efforts during 2015 in a wide variety of sports.
Dan Carter, New Zealand rugby legend was named Overseas Personality of the Year and won the award further to playing a key role in leading the All Blacks to World Cup success earlier in 2015 along with consistently good to excellent performances in every game he played.
The Coach of the Year award was well deserved by Michael O’Neill, although this was a hotly contested award Michael has been an inspirational manager of the Northern Ireland team after taking over a struggling team before helping them produce impressive results allowing them to qualify for the 2016 European Championships.
The Team Award was won by the Great Britain Davis Cup team who had an impressive triumph in Belgium, being the first British team to win the Davis Cup since 1936. The greatly anticipated Sports Personality of the Year award was then awarded to Andy Murray.
This is the 2nd time Andy Murray has won the Sports Personality of the Year award in the past three years, this time experts feel the award was won further to his dominant role in the victorious Davis Cup campaign. Andy Murray gained over 360,000 votes enabling him to win the prestigious award of Sports Personality of the Year.
Kevin Sinfield, rugby league player came second, while hept-athelete Jessica Enis was a popular contender gaining 3rd place and Tyson Fury gained 4th place, with a lot of controversy surrounding his nomination.
What are your thoughts on an award that has to be returned at the end of the year? It’s nice to have the history but wouldn’t you want an award you could keep if you had worked so hard for it? Why not consider a smaller award to keep and then a larger award that is returned and added to each year?
