Fans will be able to stream top-flight English handball for the first time after England Handball announced a new history-making broadcast deal for the 2022/23 season with Live Sport Now.
Throughout the 2022/23 season, one game each per month from the men’s and women’s Premer League will be selected for broadcast across England Handball’s social media channels. Games will be available through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
It represents the first time that action from England’s handball leagues will be broadcast live and the hope is that this latest move will continue the game’s growth, something that North East Manchester Hawks coaches Donna Hankinson and Sue Whitehead are keen to see.
England Handball national competitions and events manager John Pearce said in a statement: “We’re delighted to launch a new Live Streaming service, which is free for anyone to access and will see some of this country’s top league matches made available to the masses.
“As well as being a great facility for teams up and down the country to keep an eye on the competition – not to mention for young handballers learning the game, it’s fantastic news for fans who will be able to watch our sport from the comfort of their own home.
“We’re committed to growing the game in this country and this is one of the ways we can achieve that.”
Handball Hits
As well as live games, the new free-to-watch service will also include a monthly hour-long show that will discuss the previous month’s handball action. The show, called Handball Hits, will be hosted by Ian Waterhouse and Jack Oliphant, and will feature a selection of guests.
Pearce added: “We’re also thrilled to launch Handball Hits, which we see as something of a monthly Match of the Day.
“It will bring that extra level of analysis and interest to the sport, and is something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time.”
Live Sport Now founder Ian Waterhouse said of the new broadcast partnership: “This exciting deal will allow so many more people to watch this incredibly exciting, fast-growing sport.
“We know there’s significant demand for this service from handball enthusiasts right across the country – and we hope it will inspire stars of the future.”
Birmingham vs Nottingham in the men’s and women’s Premier Leagues have been selected as the first round of games for broadcast on Sunday 20 November.
